From the Back Office

Now that we are in the full swing of summer, things are really heating up for Pierce County golfers.  The weather in July was more like what we expect it to be, warm and beautiful. Both Lake Spanaway and Fort Steilacoom enjoyed a busy and successful month of July and we look forward to more of the same in August.  It seems with gas prices up people are staying close to home to enjoy the summer months.  Hey, that’s ok with us, we love seeing everyone more often anyway.  If you are looking for something fun and inexpensive to do come on out to your Pierce County golf courses.  Both courses are in fine shape and they may be the best value for entertainment around.  If you are looking to stretch your dollar a little further, check out our afternoon specials at Lake Spanaway.  They are listed on our website at www.lakespanawaygc.com along with all of the other great deals we offer.  Golf in Pierce County is really the best there is!

Golf Course

Both Fort Steilacoom and Lake Spanaway are in great shape.  The greens are rolling smooth and quick, the fairways are green and the sun all ways seems to be shining in the south sound.  With the golf courses experiencing a lot of play, we ask that those of you who are operating power carts be aware that you must keep those vehicles at least 30 feet from the greens and when possible, keep them on the cart paths instead of driving on the fairways.  This will keep the courses from getting so hard and packed down from the traffic they endure.  If someone in your group forgets, don’t be afraid to provide them with a small reminder.  It will help to keep the golf courses looking good and will keep the marshal off your back.

Restaurant

Karol and the crew continue to work hard to provide us with some real tasty treats.  The next time you come to play, check out the specials board on the wall behind the counter, you may be surprised at what is being offered and I think you will be surprised at the price!  Many of the other restaurants in the area are either closing or increasing their prices to keep up with the rising prices of food.  We are trying out best to keep our prices reasonable and the food fresh and satisfying.  The beverage cart is still operating daily so take advantage and have a cold beverage served to you by our outstanding staff on the course.

Events

In August, look to sign up for the Men’s club championship.  It is scheduled for the 16th and 17th.  This has the potential to be one of the best events all year as the maintenance crew puts extra effort in to making the course really shine during this event.  Even if you are not a low handicap golfer, there is still a chance for you to win an award for the championship of your handicap flight.  So come on and see what friendly competitive golf is all about.

Instruction

Great news!  Brad Shores has joined the staff in the golf shop as an assistant golf professional.  Brad has experience teaching adults, juniors, seniors and ladies from his days at Lipoma Firs.  He would love the chance to help you improve your game at Lake Spanaway.  Look for more information this coming week and a message from Brad in your email box.

Golf shop

We still have a lot of merchandise in the shop and the customers who are taking advantage continue to be surprised at the competitive prices they find at Lake Spanaway.  If it’s a driver you are looking for check out the new Nike’s we have in stock.  Looking for a wedge or that special putter?  We have a great selection of both.  You may want to come to the golf shop just to do some shopping as these items are not going to last long.

Fort Steilacoom

The staff at the Fort has really been hopping this summer.  Pierce County golfers are discovering that a round of golf does not have to take all day to play!  It is not unusual for a 9 hole round at the Fort to only take an hour!  (Maybe longer if your game is not up to par) The point is golf at Fort Steilacoom is relaxing and enjoyable for all types of players and less intimidating for the new golfer or the player that hasn’t played in a while.  It’s never too late to start or get back in the game especially at a great nine hole course like Fort Steilacoom.

That’s it for now.  Remember; swing hard in case you hit it!
