From the Back Office
As some of you may have heard, the maintenance crew at Lake Spanaway made the decision to not aerate the greens this spring due to the wet, cold weather we were experiencing during the time we usually aerate. There will be some extra measures taken throughout the season to keep the greens healthy but most of the time they will not be noticeable. The maintenance crew will be returning to the traditional spring and fall aeration in 2010.
For those of you are planning to play in the Puget Sound Amateur but have not sent in your entry go to www.lakespanawaygc.com for a downloadable version. The deadline is Wednesday May 13th so make sure you get your entry in as soon as possible. |
Golf Course
With the warm days and cool nights we have been having as of late, the golf course has blossomed. The grass is growing so fast that it is all the crew can do to keep it mowed. Everything is green and healthy!
The new tees are coming along nicely. They are healthy and with some more warm weather we should be able to open them up for regular play soon.

Restaurant
Now that we are starting to get some nicer weather why not come out and enjoy an appetizer and beverage on the patio? When the sun is out it’s a great place to be! During the month of May we will have our “Mariners Specials” which are items that are specially priced only during the game so come on out and watch the game on one of our 3 flat screen HD TV’s and enjoy some good food and drink. |
Instruction
Hello everyone, looks like we are finally going to get to start golfing. We have had a pretty rough go of it as golfers with the weather the last several months and now we can turn the corner and look towards warm weather and lots of rounds of golf.
This month’s quick tip for improving our game is very simple yet very effective. I see a lot of players trying to hit very short chip and even short pitch shots around the green with a technique that just begs for problems and miss hits. When attempting short little shots around the green the best thing we can all do is just get the ball rolling at our intended line or target. The vast majority of the time we don’t really even need the ball to get airborne but for maybe a foot or two so here is the tip, when hitting short little chip shots around the green just use an exaggerated putting stroke with a 7 or 8 iron and just bump the ball down your intended line instead of trying to hit lofted shots that are so much more unpredictable. The quicker the ball is rolling at our target, the quicker we will develop good feel and enjoy more successful up and downs.
See ya soon,
